Get Ripped Abs – P90X Transformation
I want to share the story of a fellow coach who wanted to get ripped abs and awesome results with P90X after thinking for a long time that P90X was just another one of those quick fix lose weight scams. I will let him tell you his story. Prepare to be inspired but mostly importantly be ready to act on your feelings and make a change.
“In March 2010, I was in the worst shape of my life. I had finished my doctorate in music composition at Northwestern University, and was a new teacher discovering that developing lesson plans took FOREVER! I was also hitting my stride in my relationship with my now husband. We got into habits where instead of being active we did a lot of going out to dinners, and relaxing on the couch with pizza and a TV in front of us. I had given in to the excuse that I was too busy to pay attention to my body. I was just tired a lot, but getting even more tired of the roller coaster of getting zealous about working out for a week or two, frustrated by not getting the results I wanted, and then emotionally eating to feel better. I had no plan. I was just making up what to eat and what to do in the gym.I had heard of P90X® but mostly in the same context as things like the Ab Roller or the Gazelle, just another infomercial about some contraption that doesn’t work or wasn’t practical. However, a few of my students told me about friends that had done P90X and gotten really incredible results. One evening, my hubby and I had fallen asleep on the coach after having gorged ourselves on a large pepperoni pizza. About 4am the next morning, I awoke from my carb coma to hear the TV still blasting. What else is on TV on a Saturday at 4am? The P90X INFOMERCIAL! We’ve all seen it, right? For some reason, I didn’t change the channel. I just watched person after person talk about their results, but the kicker was that if I didn’t get results that I loved I could get my money back! I NEVER buy off the TV, but this time I thought, why not? What’s to lose?
When the package arrived and I got my pull-up bar, resistance bands, and yoga mat, I looked the through the nutrition guide. That was the big thing I was most nervous about. I had never been on a prescribed diet, but I decided that if I was going to do P90X, I was going to do it 100% no excuses. I was pleasantly surprised that the nutrition was easy to figure out, and I ended up needing to eat more than I was eating before. Within the first week of waking up early to get my workouts in, I shocked my students by showing up to our 8am classes bouncing like Tigger. Haha, I had so much energy! After about 2 weeks, I started to see changes happening. I learned about this premium, and I mean premium, superfood meal replacement shake with like 70 organic ingredients from all over the world called Shakeology®. At first I thought it was a bit pricey, but decided to give it a try. It came to about $4 a day, and since it replaced a meal I would just make that work. Within a few days of starting to drink it once a day, I started to feel energized throughout the day–no more 2pm energy drain. I noticed that my results were coming even faster than before, my junk food/sweet-tooth cravings were becoming less powerful, and my digestion was becoming more regular. It was a treat I looked forward to every day. Over those 90 days, I was thrilled to keep breaking through plateaus, seeing muscles pop out and get defined. Most of all, I was just proud of myself for setting a goal and sticking to it.

In that first round of P90X, I lost 20 lbs and brought my body fat from 20% to 7%! Now even though I committed to do it 100%, every once in a while things happen. So I’d say it was closer to about 90% of what was possible. Regardless of the slip-ups, I kept going, watched a lot of YouTube transformation videos, and surrounded myself with others who were on the same journey. People were coming out of the woodwork saying they were doing P90X too. I plugged in the positive, encourage network at Team Beachbody and connected with my coach, who lived two states away, but online he walked with me, answered my questions, kicked my butt when needed, and served as a model of what was possible. I thought, “Hey, if he can do this, why can’t I?”
As I look back that that fateful night on the couch with the pizza box and TV in front of me, I’m so thankful that I chose to take that first step. There was a lot of struggle, sweat, tears, maybe a little blood, but in the end it was completely worth it! The best part of it all is that with every physical transformation, there is a greater internal transformation.“
