I Need Inspiration
Let me introduce you to my friend and fellow Team Beachbody Coach Veronica Spriggs who has lost a total to date of 287 lbs. I had the pleasure and honor of meeting her in person last year at the Coach Summit in Las Vegas. When I need inspiration, I always look to her transformation and the transformation of many others on our team of coaches to remind me of the main reason that I became a Team Beachbody Coach. Maybe you feel lost in life and would love to get started on your own fitness journey but just don’t know how to get started. If this is you feel free to learn how to get started HERE.

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?*Growing up I was always the “big girl”. Weight has been a constant struggle for as long as I can remember. I was pretty well resigned to live with the fact that I would always be Plus Size. Some how I came to terms with that. After a terrible and disfiguring automobile accident my weight just skyrocketed. I was hit head on by a drunk driver. Eventually the pain dissipated but I was left with a grotesque keloid scar on my face. The unsightly scar left me feeling hopeless and desolate. Depression set in and my weight soared out of control. Soon my weight was even more grotesque than the scar. Because I felt so ugly and ashamed of my appearance i simply gave up on taking care of myself. Eating to end my suffering. All the while the eating only exaggerated my suffering. My weight ballooned to a staggering 457 pounds and I literally believed my life was over.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?*Though I knew something had to be done about my weight I felt my situation was completely hopeless. I had no idea where to begin and looking ahead to very long journey I just didn’t feel it was possible to accomplish any real or lasting success. Having a long family history of the disease, I knew diabetes was a strong possibility for me. I remember crying the day I was diagnosed. Crying for my situation and even more so for my future as I honestly didn’t believe change was possible. I can recall sitting in my Dr.’s office and listening to him tell me that some serious changes needed to be made or my future would be very bleak. Except he didn’t put in such mild terms.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?*Beyond the diabetes my health was fading fast. I could not walk more than a couple of blocks. My knees and joints were so bad I couldn’t manage stairs or even stepping up on a curb for that matter. At one point I even considered getting one of those electric chairs the old people use. Also my bladder was failing. This was due in part to the diabetes and also because of the weight on my bladder. I can remember the shame and humiliation of not being able to fit in booths at a restaraunt, not being able to step up on a curb. And wearing the same hideous oversized dress every day because i refused to buy more FAT clothes. To say I was unfit is really putting it mildly. I was unfit, listless and weak. My body was so weak I knew i not only needed to lose weight but i also needed to build strength and tone my body. I wasn’t very sure how I would go about doing that or even IF i would be able. One night I was up late and happened to catch a Les Mills Pump commercial on tv.
Why did you choose this particular program?I am a huge fan of the Les Mills Team! Having successfully completed Les Mills Pump with such great results it was a no brainer to try Les Mills Combat next. I love taking on new challenges. And seeing just what my body is capable of.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?*I fell in love with the energy and the fitness level of the Les Mills team from the first moment I saw them on the commercial. Once I got the DVD’s I was not dissapointed. The team was so inspirational and motivational. And I just loved the routines. I also loved the fact that even at my weight I was able to complete the routine. The program was achievable yet challenging. And you can adjust the intestity or lower it depending on your needs by changing the weight you use. I loved that it made me feel strong and as if I had accomplished something.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?*I thought I would be happy if I just got under 300 pounds. I’d probably be able to walk comfortably again. At first that seemed completely out of reach. At this point my results are staggering and I have exceeded my wildest dream. I was able to lose 100lbs through diet alone though the pace was slow. I used Beachbody programs to accelerate my progress and speed up my results. I wanted to build muscle, tone up and burn more fat. I have successfully done that while dropping another 172 pounds! My body is leaner and I can see toned muscle for the first time ever! While I am so proud of the physical changes I’ve made to my body, my health and my state of mind I am most proud of how strong and capable I feel. I have never been at such a fitness level in my entire life. When I complete a Beach Body Challenge i feel invicible. I can recall someone looking at an old driver’s licensce photo of me and saying oh wow you used to be pretty. Now I feel more than pretty. I feel young and vital.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?*At this point I’ve completed several Beachbody programs and plan to complete several more. Since beginning my commitment to improving my life with Beachbody my health has done a complete 360. I am physically fit and active. I can enjoy everyday activities again. I have eliminated my diabetes and am completely off of all medications now. My knees and joints are better and I won’t be ordering a scooter any time soon! Also i don’t need to go to the store for incontinence supplies anymore! ahh life is good. Did i mention I can shop for clothes again? Yeah there’s that. And I don’t have to buy “whatever fits” I can choose to wear what i want. Fun! Once I got my weight under control and began to see hope for my future again I looked into having the disfiguring scar removed. And have had it successfully removed. The entire journey has helped me gain a much more positive outlook on life. Once I rid myself of all the negative thinking I finally began to realize all things are possible.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable? When I first saw before and after photos of my coach Daniel Trainor I thought wow he is a real person who looks like he can be in a fitness video. I was really nervous about joining his fitness group as I was certain I would be the heaviest one there. But from day one he has been supportive and never made me uncomfortable or pressured. It is very supportive to see other people reaching their fitness goals. To see everyone pushing themselves to do more and continue getting results helps to keep me inspired and looking forward to the next challenge. My coach also happens to be a doctor which really drives home the point that Beachbody is good. Really good.
How did a Beachbody Supplement or Nutritional Product or Program affect any existing health conditions you have?the ultimate reset really helped to keep my blood sugars in check as well as lower my cholesterol significantly
Did you achieve any other measureable improvements with a Beachbody Supplement or Nutritional Product or Program? (e.g. Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, triglycerides, etc…)At this point I can honestly say I’m the healthiest I’ve been in my adult life. My doctor and blood work confirms.
What tips or tools did you find most useful? What made them instrumental?I love watching everything that is going on in the Beachbody community. The Summit, shows and challenges. Even though i’m not there I feel like I am a part of it. And I know that someday I will be there live and in person. I look forward to the day. And oddly enough I enjoy watching all of the promos at the end of each workout. They give me ideas and inspiration of workouts and products I’d like to try next.
Our goal and mission as Team Beachbody coaches is to help people get real, lasting results and I am so proud of you Veronica for taking ownership of your life and really deciding to make the small simple daily choices that have brought you to where you are today. You are an inspiration to many and I am excited to see the ripple effect that will happen because of these choices you have made in your own life.
