Dealing with Haters
Stay with me on this one as I teach you some things that will help you in dealing with haters.
(Ps.. I won’t accept any bashing or negative comments about anyone in the post- it will be deleted.) I’m sharing this in hopes of raising awareness on “cyber bullying” and to help you understand that others opinions of you do not define your reality. This was a message I received in 2010 when I started P90X and began sharing about it on Facebook and a blog in hopes of inspiring my friends.
I could have given up on trying to live my purpose.
45,000 people would NOT belong to this team had I let this destroy me.
“I was just browsing your facebook page from my daughter’s profile. She pointed out that you like to talk about yourself (your body, your homeruns, your “model” wife, etc. etc. A LOT) and I thought I would feel you in on something. Do you think there is a reason you don’t get any comments or “likes” on your blogposts? It seems like you talk about yourself till you turn blue in the face. Keep your ego to yourself and maybe more people will enjoy your friendship. I know you are one of the most perfect of God’s creations, but keep that to yourself. And if your self-esteem is so low that pleading with the world to think you are amazing will fix it, you’re wrong. Have a nice day Mr. Perfect!” Mother of a High school friend.
Have you ever been judged by somebody? Are you dealing with haters but don’t really know HOW TO DEAL WITH THEM? This quote sticks in my mind anytime that I hear rumors or gossip about myself, friends of mine, or anybody else. “Wolves don’t lose sleep over the opinions of sheep.” One of the most important things that I ever heard and that has helped me in my life said something along the lines of, “if you value somebody else’s opinion of you more than the opinion that you know God has of you, than you are putting a False God before Him.
If you know that you are doing good in your life than truth is, the only opinion and acceptance you should seek is God’s.
Something that I want to share with you is a quote from the book A Purpose Driven Life for when you or a loved one are going through trials or being judged for what you do.
“You also know you’re surrendered when you don’t react to criticism and rush to defend yourself. Surrendered hearts show up best in relationships. You don’t edge others out, you don’t demand your rights, and you aren’t self-serving when you’re surrendered.”
PS. I can crush homers, my wife models for Coleman tents, and I have a BEAUTIFUL family and am 100% proud of that.
