Criticism happens no matter what. It is the price of admission to this life and I want to share with you an analogy of a juicy orange and of climbing a mountain.

I’m not trying to create more problems for you, but I do want to to be honest with yourself. You can’t change your life direction if you don’t know where you are right now.

Imagine a high mountain that you want to scale. It helps to know if you were already halfway to the summit, stuck in the mud at the lowest valley, or 1000 miles from nowhere.

You might be in any of those places, but you are not alone. One of my mentors always shares the phrase, “Honor the struggle.”

The struggle for greatness in life is part of what makes us human. To struggle is to live.

You and I will have challenges. The difference is in what we choose to do about it.

I love the analogy of a juicy orange. Squeeze it, and you find out what’s inside of the orange is juice. When you look at a human being, and you apply pressure to them, what comes out all depends on what’s inside. If you have peace and love and patience inside, then that’s what will come out when , “life happens”

If you have anger, resentment, shame, and stress inside of you, and haven’t learned to process that pain, then that’s what will come out of you when everything doesn’t go according to plan. 

I used to have a lot of pain bottled up that would be expressed outwardly in harmful ways to myself and others( even those closest to me.)

When I was challenged by life in certain ways, it would come out. It wasn’t pretty. But when you see me waking up early daily, journaling, reading, and meditating it’s because I am working on a healing journey. That journey I have undertaken has moved me to a very different place, a place of peace and contentment. 

I’m encouraging you on that climb to the top of the mountain ( whatever that might look like to you) that you take an honest evaluation of where on that path you are so that you can embrace the work ahead of you and honor the struggle because you’re going to come out on the other side so much better.

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
