Those were phrases that I heard multiple times throughout the week in my previous job. They were phrases that were worn like a badge of honor and spoken with almost zero emotion.
8 months into building my side business while working 12 hour days, I was exhausted, tired, and absolutely overwhelmed. I was working long days, taking care of three little girls on my own while my wife worked nights, and spending a couple hours a night building my business.
I went to the back fence pulled my hoodie over my head and just cried. I was thinking it would be best if I just stopped trying so hard. I could back off my goals and just casually build my business as a hobby.
I walked back through the shop. I went slowly and looked at everyone that I passed by. The head foreman, the top paid welders, the top sales leader, and the highest paid engineers. All great people, but I realized they were living life that I didn’t want. If I continue on my path, I could get to where they were at, but I didn’t want the life that they had.
In my mind flashed by of the people who I was inspired by, including the person who enrolled me in this business and a few others, I looked up to.
I wanted that life.
I wanted to be more present with my kids.
I wanted to earn vacations.
I wanted to have an unlimited potential to earn.
I wanted to be surrounded by people who were pumped about life.
It was a moment when I could’ve backed off and settled but I made a decision to grow.
It’s possible to change without growing, but it’s impossible to grow without changing.
