If you work hard, you will become successful, and once you become successful, then you will be happy.
You might be thinking, “If I just get that raise, or hit that next sales target, I’ll be happy.
If I can just get that next good grade, I’ll be happy.
If I lose that 5 pounds, I’ll be happy. And so on.”
Success first, happiness second .
The only problem is that this formula is broken. It may be one of the main reasons you are not fulfilled and achieving your goals.
If success causes happiness, then every employee who gets a promotion, or anyone who has ever achieved a goal of any kind, should be happy.
But with each victory, our goal post of success keeps getting pushed further and further out so your happiness gets pushed over the horizon.
One of my favorite books is “The Happiness Advantage” where Shawn Anchors teaches through science, that happiness is the precursor to success, and not merely the result.
Happiness and optimism, actually fuel performance and achievement, and will give you a competitive edge.
Waiting to be happy, will limit your brains potential for success. If you can cultivate a positive mindset and happiness, you’ll be more motivated, efficient, resilient, creative, and productive, and that will drive your performance.
So while things might be challenging and hard right now, this is your opportunity to create happiness so that your brain is primed to create the ideas and keep you focused on achieving your goals.
So MEN, let’s level up. You’re alive, you’re breathing, you’re capable of staying focused on whatever mission you set your mind to.
